From the introduction to the Daily Prayer Journal:
"There are so many beautiful prayer practices and devotions within our Catholic faith that even when we do manage to find some time for prayer, it may be hard to know where to start.
The spirit of confusion can creep in and frustrate our efforts before we can make any headway.
No more. Today, in the name of Jesus, we’re going to claim a little time at the start and end of each day. We’re going to name our prayer. And we’re going to begin, even more intentionally, to enter into an ongoing dialogue with our Beloved, the kind of intimate conversation that deepens the most important relationship in our lives. We will, in prayer, “lay our whole soul, ready for reception and formation, into God’s hands.”
This journal is meant to provide some clarity and direction in your daily prayer practice. It’s not intended to be rigid; it is simply a starting point. Find freedom in it to express yourself to the Lord, and space to listen to Him. My hope is that it will become a memory book of “grace upon grace” in the words of St. Edith Stein - the grace that flows from a lived life in union with the Trinity.
Three simple ways to pray in the morning, three at night. Three things you are offering your day for, three things you are grateful for. Three things to unburden yourself of. And this journal gives you space for three months! You can most certainly commit to three-in fact, there’s something about us that likes sets of three. It is an odd number, yet we seem to find in it something whole and satisfying. Let me suggest that it is because we are made in the image and likeness of a Trinitarian God!"
